These types of movies should be boycotted and the production of them banned. We all know which group is behind the making of these nasty insidious films. Great scene, but Furgie/Burgie royally fucked his entire squad by getting ancy and dumping a clip into the concrete vent shaft. All it did was alert the defenders while shooting fucking nothing.

General Kuribayashi expected Japan's defeat when he arrived at Iwo Jima, and was prepared that he would not return alive. If you know this, you can really understand the meaning of this scene

For the civilians watching: Enlisted, regardless of rank, are below officers. An E9 Sergeant Major with decades of experience is technically required to salute and follow the orders of an O-1 boot lieutenant who has been at the unit for all of 1 hour. However, all those officers answer to the Commanding Officer. And what the Commanding Officer says, goes. He said what he said based off the Sergeant Majors history. That’s what makes this scene so memorable to vets.

What a load of CGI bollocks! Wildly inaccurate version of events.

That's a very strange movie to say the least. It feels like it's making fun of both the USSR and the Japanese. The Imperial Japanese Army didn't rely on suicide tactics back in 1939 (Battle of Khalkin Gol) and they certainly didn't use infantry squares either. If you look at contemporary photos, they fought like any modern army would at that time. The Soviet Army in the Far East was commanded by genereal Georgy Zhukov who used combined arms tactics to crush the Japanese Army with a two pincers encirclement movement. They encircled the japanese 23rd Infantry Division and since it refused to surrender, destroyed it. The soviet attack was characterised by considerable use of close air support aviation, artillery bombardments and infantry and tanks closely fighting together. The large majority of soviet tank losses were listed as having been due to antitank guns, a significant amount being caused by conventional artillery and only a minority being due to hand thrown incendiary bombs, grenades or mines. The movie rather show a very fantasy version of that battle unfortunately and it breaks immersion for me.

The same establishment isn't harsh foreign colonies in Europe isn't it? Not every war in history is pointless. But WW1 was particularly pointless war. Brother killed brother for nothing, and caused today's problems in Europe. It wasn't the war itself caused these problems of course because population can regrow quickly like Soviet Union and Polan for example. But the ideologies came after the WW1 and WW2 have been destroying both western Europe and America for sure. Especially after 60's. European monarchs and oligarchies instead of following the greed and ultra nationalism they could unite and just focused on the real enemies: Like Ottoman empire.
